The Bishop will regularly visit parishes to ensure that there is an awareness of child safeguarding, and that effective practice is being implemented. This visit should, as far as possible, involve local people such as PSRs, alongside the parish priest, to allow the Bishop the opportunity to recognise good practice, and to thank those involved for their work in maintaining the child safeguarding standards.

The Bishop will examine a number of items during these visits; This list may include, for example:

  • A copy of the previous year’s annual child safeguarding audit from the local area (S4.44)
  • Sacristy attendance register (S4.17)
  • Safeguarding posters displayed
  • Codes of behaviour for groups of children (S4.9);
